My name is John Moody.
I was born in Long Beach, California & raised a few miles north of there, in San Pedro. San Pedro is a suburb of Los Angeles, about 30 minutes south of downtown. Now, although I no longer live there, I hear it's about an hour & a half drive!
I was always interested in music & played guitar in several bands. I attended College of the Siskiyous in Northern California & majored in Music, as well as Forestry & Natural Resources. I applied for & was accepted to Berklee School of Music in Boston, but realized that the tuition wasn't available to me.
To save money for my college future, I joined the U.S.Army as a guitarist in the 8th I.D. Army Band. I was sent to Bad Kreuznach Germany, about an hour SW of Frankfurt, on the beautiful "Nahe River", and served for 2 years and 2 months.
When I separated from the service, I decided to stay in Europe "just a little longer". Why not? I had my band and more friends then I could count. Well, that "just a little longer" turned into 25 years!
I had the opportunity to work with Martin Biallas International, near Hannover Germany, as a concert tour assistant & worked with such artists as Jose Feliciano, Tina Turner, Joe Cocker, Duran Duran, Mother's Finest & more.
While on tour with the late Johnny "Guitar" Watson in Amsterdam, I met some Texans running a Mexican restaurant called "Curley Joe's". At that point in time, Mexican food was nonexsistent in Germany. I convinced Martin to get involved, and in 1982, we opened the first Tex-Mex restaurant in Germany!
After 9 years of hard work, my family & I moved to Munich so I could help German film actor & director Roger Fritz open his "Mammasita's Restaurant". I stayed with Roger for about a year & decided I wanted to pursue & improve my culinary skills. I worked in several establishments throughout Bavaria. In 1997 I conceived & opened my Jazz Cantina Bar & Restaurant on Munich's Rosenheimer Platz.
